  In an unexpected turn during the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) search for a new head coach, Barca legend Xavi submitted an application for the role. His personal email was noted on the official shortlist, catching officials by surprise. However, the AIFF's technical committee chose not to advance his candidacy, primarily citing the significant financial implications that come with appointing a coach of his stature, reports.

  Beyond Xavi, the AIFF received applications from a range of coaches, including known figures in Indian football circles and those with world recognition. Noteworthy applicants included former Liverpool stars Robbie Fowler and Harry Kewell, along with familiar Indian Super League (ISL) faces such as Kibu Vicuna, Eelco Schattorie and Khalid Jamil.

  Despite being unsuccessful, Xavi's application is seen as indicative of Indian football's growing international appeal. For the AIFF, the process involved sifting through 170 applicants, highlighting the global interest in the position.
